U.S. Lime Demand to Reach 18.9 Million Metric Tons in 2021
Ohio Ag Connection - 10/17/2017

U.S. lime demand is forecast to reach 18.9 million metric tons in 2021, according to Lime: United States, a report recently released by Freedonia Focus Reports, Cleveland. Expanding production of durable goods and increasing construction activity will spur demand for quicklime. Hydrated lime suppliers will benefit from expansion in the construction sector, while rising production of steel and other manufactured goods will bolster demand for refractory lime.

Through 2021, growth in steel production levels will be the primary driver of increased demand for lime in metallurgical applications, which will remain the leading application segment. The environmental segment is expected to exhibit the fastest gains over the forecast period due to growth in lime consumption for the removal of air pollutants at coal-fired power plants and increases in the volume of treated water.

These and other key insights are featured in Lime: United States. This report forecasts to 2021 US lime demand and production in metric tons.

To illustrate historical trends, total demand, total production, and the various segments are provided in annual series from 2006 to 2016.
