Pelanda, DeWines, PDA Donate Turkeys to Moms
Ohio Ag Connection - 12/02/2019

Ohio Director of Agriculture Dorothy Pelanda joined Ohio Governor Mike DeWine, First Lady Fran DeWine and the Ohio Poultry Association in visiting the Moms2B program. The DeWines shared a gift of donated turkeys and turkey meat from Ohio Poultry Association turkey farmers.

Moms2B is a program through The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center that aims to prevent infant mortality. It provides free, weekly education and support to expecting mothers and mothers of infants. Located in Central Ohio neighborhoods with the highest infant mortality rates, Moms2B holds eight meetings each week and provides transportation, on-site childcare, and a hot meal.

The free-range turkeys were donated by Bowman & Landes Turkeys, located in New Carlisle. Founded in 1948 by Ken Bowman and Dennis Landes, Bowman & Landes is still owned and operated by the 2nd, 3rd and 4th generation family members. In addition to raising turkeys, Bowman & Landes also farms several thousand acres of corn, soybeans and wheat in the Miami Valley region. The turkey meat was donated by Oakwood's Cooper Farms, a family owned and operated company since 1938. Cooper Farms raises more than 6 million turkeys a year.
