Ohio Ag Connection - 02/28/2024

Representatives from Wayne County Farm Bureau actively participated in Ohio Farm Bureau’s annual Ag Day at the Capital on February 21. The event brought together hundreds of Ohio Farm Bureau members in downtown Columbus for one-on-one meetings with state senators and representatives to discuss key agricultural issues.

Among the priority issues introduced were eminent domain reform and additional landowner protections, water quality improvement, building a more resilient food system, and expanding affordable high-speed broadband access. These topics, along with various community issues, were presented to lawmakers during the meetings.

A leadership panel featuring members of the 135th General Assembly engaged attendees in discussions about the future of agricultural policies in Columbus. Topics covered included property taxes, environmental stewardship, education, workforce development, and rural healthcare.

Wayne County Farm Bureau was represented by Stan Smith, Kevin Ungerer, Olivia Lang, Lisa Mangun, Andrea Esselburn, and Matt Vodraska. The delegation, like other Farm Bureau members, actively participated in advocating for the agricultural community at the grassroots level.

In addition to discussions with lawmakers, attendees heard from Ohio Farm Bureau President Bill Patterson and Executive Vice President Adam Sharp during the event. The annual Ag Day at the Capital exemplifies the dedication of Ohio Farm Bureau member volunteers in voicing their concerns and priorities.
