Investigation Continues into $40,000 Fireworks Theft
Ohio Ag Connection - 06/30/2016

The Division of State Fire Marshal's Fire & Explosion Investigation Bureau is seeking information from the public regarding a theft of consumer grade fireworks worth $40,000 that occurred in the early morning hours of June 24.

The theft occurred at Phantom Fireworks in Bloomingburg around 1:30 a.m. Investigators believe the suspects arrived in multiple vehicles, cut through a fence to gain access to the property and then cut through the semi-trailer used to store the fireworks.

The investigation is being conducted in conjunction with the Fayette County Sheriff's Office. Information has been received that additional incidents have taken place in Pennsylvania and Florida. Likewise, a similar robbery attempt was made at the Chillicothe Fireworks store in Chillicothe.

A reward of up to $5,000 is being offered by Phantom Fireworks for information leading to the identification of the persons responsible for the theft.

"We need your help to solve this case. Information from the public can help tremendously," said State Fire Marshal Larry L. Flowers. "Even if you don't think the information is relevant, it could bring the entire case together for our investigators."

Anyone with information is asked to call the State Fire Marshal's Fire & Explosion Investigation Bureau at 1-800-589-2728 or the Fayette County Sheriff's Office at 740-335-6170.
