21st Century Community Learning Center Grants Awarded
Ohio Ag Connection - 08/16/2017

The Ohio Department of Education this week awarded approximately $44.3 million in new and continuing 21st Century Community Learning Center grants for Fiscal Year 2018.

This year, the Department received 300 new applications from Ohio's local schools and community-based organizations. The Department awarded 107 new programs, totaling approximately $21.16 million, up from 26 new programs last year. In addition, the Department awarded 135 continuing grantees, totaling approximately $23.17 million. For this year's new applicants, priority was given to well-planned programs in Ohio's rural areas.

The 21st Century Community Learning Center grant is a highly competitive grant program funded through the U.S. Department of Education. In Ohio, the grants awarded to schools and community-based organizations are on five-year grant cycles. Continuing grantees are required to submit information each year to continue their grants through the five-year cycle and are awarded as long as they are in good standing. The remaining funds for the fiscal year allow for new grantees to be awarded.

Grantees, through the application process, are required to submit plans describing how the community learning center will continue after funding under the grant ends. Funds are awarded to promote program implementation that ultimately will be self-sustaining.
