Ohio's apple growers produced an estimated 111.1 million pounds in 2009, an increase of 7.1 million pounds from 2008 and 55.5 million lbs from the 2007 estimate. There were 6,800 bearing acres, a decrease of 200 acres from 2008. The 2009 preliminary season average price is estimated at 36.6 cents per pound, down 5.7 cents from the 42.3 cents per lb reported in 2008. The value of utilized production is estimated at $38.6 million, up 3 percent from $37.6 million in 2008.

Peach growers produced an estimated 2,560 tons in 2009, down from 6,600 tons in 2008, a decrease in production of 61.0 percent. The 2009 bearing acres are the same as last year at 1300 acres. The 2009 average yield per acre decreased to 1.97 tons per acre from 5.08 tons per acre in 2008. Preliminary season average price is estimated at 1,640 dollars per ton, an increase of 270 dollars per ton. The 2009 value of utilized production decreased to $3.95 million from $8.91 million in 2008, a decrease of 55.7 percent. The 2009 Ohio grape production increased from 5,660 tons in 2008 to 5,740 tons in 2009, 20 tons were utilized for the fresh market, and 5,160 tons were processed. The 2009 average yield at 3.02 tons per acre increased 1 percent from 2.98 tons in 2008. The 2009 season average price is estimated at $973.00 per ton, a 173 percent increase in price from the 2008 price per ton of $356.00. The total value of utilized production is estimated at $5.04 million, up from $1.90 million in 2008.

Ohio strawberry growers produced an estimated 30,000 cwt in 2009, a decrease of 12,000 cwt from 2008. Harvested acres of strawberries are estimated at 710 acres in 2009, down from 770 acres in 2008. The 2009 average yield of 42 cwt per acre is a decrease of 13 cwt per acre from 2008. The season average price estimate is $191.00 per cwt, up from $174.00 in 2008. The value of utilized production is $5.73 million, down 21.6 percent from the 2008 number of $7.31 million.
